Welcome to an Phil H's Shed page! This page is chronicling the progress of Phill's new Lightweight! This isn't Phil's First Lightweight (See his first one here), nor is it Phil's only Land Rover (See Phil's Series 3 FFR here) . It’s been almost two years since I bought the Lightweight. The biggest renovation hurdle is that there had been a fire in the wiring loom and there was miles of black crispy wiring to remove. The fire of course removing any trace of what colour the original wiring might have been. The other problem is that neither land rover or the Army produced a wiring diagram for the KC registration series. There are no ‘surplus’ wiring harnesses for this contract so the only option has been to buy an earlier wiring harness and try and work out what the difference was between mine and earlier vehicles. It’s a little more difficult than doing it on an Australian vehicle because the wiring harness was ‘standardised’ meaning they included the wiring and connections for all possible military uses and equipment. This means you have to sort out what leads and connections you need and what the rest are used for! The wiring is still a ‘work in progress’ but the end is in sight now. Last month, for the first time I achieved that wonderful milestone when there is actually more of your vehicle renovated and assembled instead of in bits in various boxes. Still a ways to go but this is where I’m up to!
