Land-Rover Series 2 Topographical Survey

Originally assumed to be 1959 pre-production design Series 2 Ambulance, perhaps the first ever. Note early brush guard idea, side windows, capstan winch, roof rack, lhs fuel tank, bronze green on gal cappings and windscreen frame but not seat frames or headlight trim, no 'gardening tool' brackets fitted, BWC plate mounted low, no tac holders, secondary locker low and forward of the both rear wheels, no front air vent above windscreen. But appearances deceive. This is one of the first "Census 6026", Topographical Survey Trucks (either ARN 107-433, 107-434, or 107-435). Very few were made.

Tail light cups sideways, prototype rear panels, pintle hooks, no under door sill panels. Further clues that this is not an Ambulance; missing Geneva Cross' Ambulance markings and that roof rack.

Ready for fitout, bare but for spare, three seats. Further clues that this is not an Ambulance Prototype; the side windows would mean the 2 upper stretchers could not be fitted. And an interior mounted tyre in an Ambulance? Can only be the Census 6026 variant.

Identified as ARN 106-952 in ADE Trials pics (eng #151904354 ch#153900182 del. 1959, disposal 16.01.78). Other one on the right has capstan winch, but no inlet/vent above windscreen and an 'Indian' canvas roll up rear door. Identified as ARN 106-947 in ADE Trials pics (eng #151904109 chassis #153900183 del. 1959, disposal 09.01.81). No beacons on either Ambulance.
