Land-Rover Series 2<BR>Australian Military Forces Spec.

I wish we had all the story behind these vehicles pictured in 1961. I guess that during the late 1950's someone from the RAEME Corps pushed for new vehicles, each with purposeful and practical arrays of different equipment for use in-theatre. This archive of pics only gives an impression of work done toward properly equipping RAEME in the early 1960's. I also assume that ADE was deeply involved. Established in March 1959, the 'new' Army Design Establishment teams undertook design development and modification work for the Australian Army...

At least we do know (thanks to the B.B.B. ARN records) that 50 Series 2 109" units were made (1960-1962), and 388 Series 2A 109" units (1963-1969). Later 40 Series 3 MV units were made (1981). Add to those totals the fact that quiet a few RAEME trucks had their chassis swapped to keep the special Workshop bodywork 'in-service' up to 30 years!

ps: RAEME Landys at auction showed that -for obvious reasons- they were nearly always the best Land-Rovers in the whole Army, kept in an enviable mechanical condition.

pps: our thanks go to Ian P. (REMLR 191) for providing his archive of old Army documents from 1961.
