Other Conversions and Oddities

There are many unusual conversions and oddities which seem to have appeared, if you have any others, or know more information about some of those shown here, feel free to contact REMLR.

Interestingly, most conversions and oddities appear to be on Mk.5 vehicles, and mostly converted for roles in vietnam.

This photo comes to us in early 2008 from Cliff Hodges. According to Cliff this was the only Mk.3 Tipper that was in service that he was aware of. It saw service with the ADE.

There seem to be others about however at this stage we think that they may have been post service Modifications.

This 6x6 has been converted to a concrete mixer and was being used in Vietnam. Apparently the conversion was done in Australia and they were sent to Vietnam like this. I've also heard of Mk.4 vehicles being converted to cement mixers, but i've found no images to support this. Some photos of the Vung Tau Ferry show at least 3 concrete trucks, but it can not be seen if they are Mk.3 4x4 or 6x6 vehicles.

Another 6x6, this time converted into a large mobile drilling rig. Thanks to Keith Web at www.oldcmp.net for this image. This is another vietnam photo, and the tool boxes behind the cab appear to have been removed in order to fit a longer tray.

This Truck is somewhat of a mystery. Both images appear to be of the same vehicle at different times of it's life. The Australian Army has experimented with halftracks of other truck types, it is not known if the ACCO was also experimentally converted. It may be that this was a project for somebody after the vehicle left the army.

2011 Update: This vehicle was converted with parts from a M3 halftrack by a gentleman in Coldstream Victoria who imported a bunch of White Halftracks that were ex Greek army units.

At first glance this 6x6 appears to be a F1 General Service with large tanks on the back. However closer inspection reveals the Mudguards from a F2 Tipper, but no tool boxes between the tray and cab. In fact there doesn't appear to be space for the tool boxes because of a longer tray. Perhaps a damaged tipper that was repaired for use in a different role?

This is what appears to be the same vehicle seen at the far end of the shed alongside a regular F1 and F2. Perhaps it was a specific tanker modification, perhaps a once off for Vietnam??
