The Registry Of Ex-Military Land-Rovers Au, NZ, etc Stephen's Land-Rover Series 2A Ambulance Norma Jean

Welcome to Stephen's shed. Stephen is REMLR member number 001.

Stephen's Land-Rover Ambulance is a first class example of the model and the best in the Registry. The restoration and subsequent collection of authentic period medical "CES" to display with Norma Jean has inspired most of his fellow REMLR Series 2A enthusiasts to attempt to do likewise with their favorite ex-Australian Army Land-Rovers. He inspired us all from as early as April 1996 when his R.A.A.M.C. Ambulance appeared in Land-Rover Owner International.

Stephen's 1965 Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC) Ambulance saw service in Vietnam where it picked up a pet name of Norma Jean. This bit of history was revealed during thorough restoration in 1994 when layers of paint were removed from the lower horizontal mid-section of the brush guard; have you checked your bar?RAAMC Insignia Caution -do not accidentally sandblast history off doors, guards, tacs and bumpers!

Norma Jean is well known as a sort of mobile R.A.A.M.C. mini-museum. The medical fittings, uniforms, stretchers, glass syringes and 1960's memorabilia are not to be missed - not forgetting the gleaming paint job in Deep Bronze Green, as supplied into service (fleet colour before Vietnam-era introduction of Olive drab).

Norma Jean was awarded the prize for the Best ex-military Land-Rover exhibited at the April 1998 Land-Rover 50th Anniversary gathering at Cooma NSW. Stephen's unit seemed to be 4 and 5 people deep every time I looked around for it - but even before Norma Jean, Stephen and family arrived in Cooma, back up the road in the ACT (where the Cooma convoy lined up) this ambulance's popularity and admiration was proved as it became the featured Land-Rover in the Canberra Times report (and they put in a big colour photo of Norma Jean). Stephen Stansfield's activities and memberships include the Army Reserve, Queensland Ambulance Service, the QMVG, and REMLR too.
