The Registry Of Ex-Military Land-Rovers Au, NZ, etc Land-Rover Perentie 4x4 / 6x6 in service

No i'm the first to acknowledge that I do not know a lot about the role of the Salvation Army within the Australian Army, but what litle I do is added at teh top. If you know more, please contact REMLR via e-mail or the forums.

The Salvation Army has long been a supporter of the troops who serve in the Australian Defence Forces. The vehicles that they have used to do this have often been of the same or similar specification to the Army's own vehicles to aid in keeping them running.

Often called a Sallyman, everything from Series 2 vans, through to modern Defender 130's with specialised bodies have seen service. Even a special build of Perentie 110's have been used. A number of these Perentie 110 vehicles now reside in civilian hands, making up a chunk of the Perenties in private hands.

Series 2 Vehicles
These vehicles are seen in photos of Army life in various locations around Australia, as well as deployed in Vietnam. The below are AWM photos depicting the Salvation Army in Vietnam. In many of the photos the Salvos are operating a canteen out of the vehicle. Although with some army parts, it appears to be a civilian specification vehicle.

Perentie 110

The Salvation Army had a number of Perentie 110 vehicles. It's known that some of the later vehicles had specific changes from the army specification. these changes are detailed below.

Design Deviation was raised 7/03/89 to validate the build of the final 5 remaining Salvo Vehicles. 2 Station Wagons and 3 Hard Tops.

The wagons were Personnel Carriers except that they were to have Lift Up/Drop down Tailgate instead of one piece doors, were to be DPP as for Senior Commander (Personnel Carriers were originally delivered in green only), and to be equipped with winch.

The Hardtops were also to be fitted with Lift Up/Drop down Tailgate, have the weapons stock clip and bracket removed (the butt box tray remained) be 12 Volt only (24V deleted), retain Battery access lids, delete forced draught ventilation, delete wiring hatch in vehicle side and delete radio mountings.

In all other respects the vehicles were as per their Perentie equivalents.

Defender 130

In more recent times, these Defender 130 vehilces have performed the Sallyman job. Whilst not to the same specification of the Perentie, I expect the purchase and operating costs would be lower.
