The Registry Of Ex-Military Land-Rovers Au, NZ, etc

Hi all at REMLR.

I noticed the question about what's behind the grille on the Series 2 FFW.

I believe that it is a large 24V rectifier as used in some of the British Army Series 2 FFR vehicles. If this is true then it would indicate that the vehicle had a 24V rectified electrical system as opposed to 12V. I have seen photographs of the British vehicles from the front and heard it was a 'cow' of a system and could deliver a lively shock to REME personnel at times. I have also seen a CES list for Australian FFT which stipulated 24V distributor, plugs, coil, lights, etc, etc.

So that could be the answer. On the other hand it might be nothing more than a prototype oil cooler for use while charging the radio batteries (prolonged engine idling time), in which case I am wrong and will shut right up!
